SOS FAUNA - About us

Our activities started 1989 with isolated individual efforts to combat illicit wildlife trade in Brazil.

Observing typical habits of people involved in animal trafficking, SOS FAUNA - today a non-profit organization based in São Paulo – has since developed a high-risk intelligence service exposing illegal traders and markets.

A SECOND CHANCE

Joint field works with local authorities have led to countless police raids and confiscation actions, where SOS FAUNA assists in technical, operational and legal issues regarding the rescued animals, but primarily assures them proper care and first aid, a pioneer work which gives those creatures a second chance for life.

PROJECTS

Tragically those animals confiscated far away from the region where they were captured won’t ever be reintegrated to their original biomes. SOS FAUNA is currently focused on reintroduction projects for wildlife species and individuals.

Create holding facilities to rehabilitate and release wildlife rescued from traffic is a scientific-based program idealized by SOS FAUNA to be implemented with cooperative agreements with other states.

Furthermore we are working on educational programs addressed to individuals and communities involved in illegal wildlife activities, and on land appropriation in strategic areas of the country with the sole purpose of conservation and protection of wildlife resources and their habitats.
