Life-saving
veterinary care
Because criminal activity is a 24-hour business, SOS FAUNA has qualified
veterinarians and veterinary technicians standing by around the clock
for emergency aid to wildlife rescued from traffic.
After confiscations with local authorities, the individuals arrested
and their animals are taken to the nearest police station. The animals
must be kept in appropriate temperatures and be handled with special
care so that they are not unnecessarily distressed during transport
and at the station.
URGENCY
TREATMENT
Hours
can pass by until legal formalities are carried through, a period of
time when confiscated animals can easily perish if not treated immediately
with specific food, re-hydration, medication when needed, and given
adequate space and improved hygiene conditions (see pictures below).
SOS Fauna veterinarians and biologists are trained to provide immediate
qualified treatment to assure the animals can be safely
transferred to their new destination. Unqualified handling of the animals
and deferred treatment can cause mass decease, a reason
why SOS Fauna is also called for veterinary care and relocation of rescued
fauna in police actions where we did not have a direct participation.
For
these operations to be possible we need a designated vehicle with the
proper food and veterinarian supplies for wildlife care plus equipments
like those pictured below:
1
- Medicine supply

2
- Fresh food:
confiscated animals must be offered a variety of food, besides medication

3
- Special food for birds: we carry a variety of different food
for al kinds of bird species

4
- Adapted syringe for medicine and liquid food

Heater:
Temperature in the working area must be kept ideal for the animals.
